Zinc, copper, manganese and selenium sit at the centre of enzyme systems that cattle depend on for immune function, antioxidant defence and fertility. Marginal deficiency rarely shows up as clinical disease. It shows up as a herd that conceives a little later, responds a little worse to a challenge, and never gives an obvious reason why.

Oral supplementation depends on intake and on what else is in the diet: antagonists such as sulphur, molybdenum and iron compete for absorption, so a ration that looks adequate on paper does not guarantee adequate status in the animal. An injectable route bypasses that competition and delivers a known quantity on a known day — which is what makes it possible to time supplementation to a specific event, such as a synchronisation protocol or a period of expected stress.

This library collects the conference posters behind that work. Today it covers reproduction in beef cattle under commercial conditions in Brazil and in confined dairy herds in Italy. These are prescription-only veterinary medicines; the studies published here describe what was measured, not what should be prescribed.

Injectable trace mineral supplementation increases conception rates in Nellore cows submitted to fixed-time artificial insemination

1,182 multiparous Nellore cows on 2 Brazilian farms. Conception rate at first-service FTAI was 57.7% with the injectable trace mineral treatment vs 50.8% for control (OR 1.30; 95% CI 1.03–1.67; p=0.02). Strategic trace mineral injection during the dry period: association with post-partum health traits and reproductive performance in dairy cows

1,271 Holstein cows in 3 confined Italian herds. Median time to conception was 77 days with two injections during the dry period vs 96 days for control (p=0.03); hazard ratio for pregnancy 1.15 (95% CI 1.00–1.32). Injectable trace minerals, strategic administration before fixed-time artificial insemination in beef cattle in Brazil

1,643 Nelore cattle across 7 Brazilian farms. Pregnancy at D41 was 51% with the injectable trace mineral treatment vs 44% for control (OR 1.29; 95% CI 1.05–1.59).
